The RMCHCS ADDICTIONS UNIT is set below the majestic Hogback Mountains. This backdrop provides function to our holistic approach and offers a connection to nature facilitating the healing process.

RMCHCS specializes in treating clients with co-occurring disorders also known as "dual diagnosis". We provide an integrated treatment approach to address both mental illness and addiction to drugs and alcohol. Clients are able to bring in medications prescribed by their doctors for affective disorders such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, post traumatic stress disorder and schizophrenia. A registered nurse is on duty 12 hours per day and a psychiatric nurse practitioner is on staff.

Our services include a residential 30 day program, day treatment, an intensive out-patient program that runs three nights a week for five weeks, and an after care program that runs two nights per month. We also have a monthly meeting for co-occurring clients called "Better Times".

Within our addiction program our services include:

  • Comprehensive assessment
  • Individualized treatment plans
  • Individual, group, family and pastoral counseling
  • 12-Step philosophy
  • Monitoring of medical and psychiatric disorders
  • Nutritional counseling
  • Case Management

Our treatment modalities include motivational interviewing, the community reinforcement approach and neurolinguistic programming.

Our Native American counselors and staff represent the Navajo, Zuni and Laguna tribes. The counselors speak Zuni and Navajo and are culturally sensitive to all individual tribal customs. Sweat lodge is offered to both men and women on a weekly basis. Talking circle is held every Friday evening. Any client, either native or non-native, may request a Traditional Healing ceremony that is conducted by our medicine man.

We encourage family involvement while in treatment and offer visiting hours every Sunday from 1-4:00pm. Prior to completing the 30-day program, we require a meeting with a family member(s) and/or identified support system.

Our daily program activities include groups and activities from 9:15am until 8:30pm. The groups are didactic, educational and include outdoor activities. Frequent walks in the beautiful Hogback Mountains are led by staff and clients are encouraged to walk the grounds daily as part of their exercise program.

****Our facility is non-smoking and we encourage smokers to bring in nicotine replacement items such as patches or gum. We ask that all cell phones, I-pods, radios, computers and other electronic devices be left at home so as not to distract from the recovery process.
